Every marble restoration starts with figuring out what the stone needs. Light etching and dullness can usually be honed and polished out. Deeper scratches, worn traffic paths and uneven tiles need grinding first, then honing and polishing in steps until the finish is even again.

This Chicago homeowner had a beautiful white marble waterfall island with a high-gloss polished finish. They wanted it to look great and hold up better to everyday life in a busy kitchen.

Polished or honed marble: which is better for a kitchen?
