Most kitchens in Chicagoland have granite countertops, and most of them have a chipped sink edge, an uneven seam, a crack or a dull spot that the homeowner thinks means replacing the whole countertop. It almost never does. With 18 years specializing in granite and natural stone and hands-on training in stone repair, we fix it all, and we never sub out our stone work.

The most typical service we offer is a general clean, polish & seal. Most granite surfaces are not treated correctly upon installation and therefore are susceptible to future stains and dulling of the polished finish.

We offer a cleaning process that opens the pores of the granite and sanitizes the surface organically with 300 degree steam. We make sure that all of the mineral buildup around your fixtures and sinks is completely removed before we continue.

Then we can either refinish & polish the surface back to the original luster or seal the surface and close all of the pores.

Regardless of the service you choose, we leave your countertops looking refreshed and brand new again. We also make sure that everything that comes in contact with your counters is food safe.

Granite Countertop Repair

Chipped, cracked or damaged granite doesn’t have to be replaced. Prestige repairs granite countertops in kitchens, bathrooms and bars across Chicagoland. Many of our repairs are completely invisible, and the rest blend in so well most people never notice them.

Chips & Broken Corners

Chips along edges and broken corners are some of the most common granite repairs we do. We fill and rebuild the damaged area, then shape and polish it to match the rest of the countertop.

Chipped Sink Edges

The edge around an undermount sink takes a beating from pots and pans. We repair chipped sink edges so they look clean again and stop catching on sponges and towels.

Cracks

We repair cracks in granite countertops with specialty resins that bond the stone and blend in with the surrounding granite.

Seams & Uneven Seams

Seams can open up, discolor or become uneven over time. We clean out failed seams, level uneven ones and refill them so the joint is tight and smooth.

Rod Repair (Cracked Granite in Front of the Sink)

Many granite countertops have a steel rod installed in the narrow strip in front of the sink. Over time that rod can rust and expand, cracking the granite along the entire front of the sink. We remove the cracked pieces, take out the rusted rod, glue the granite back together with a specialty adhesive, then fill, grind, polish and seal it. In most cases it saves the countertop from being replaced.

Backsplash Recaulking

Cracked, moldy or pulling-away caulk between your countertop and backsplash lets water in behind it. We remove the old caulk and recaulk it cleanly.

Dull Spots & Full Polishing

We refinish dull areas and polish entire countertops back to a like-new shine.

How We Repair Granite

Every repair is done with professional-grade materials: specialty resins, color-matched powders to blend with your stone, and specialty diamonds and polishing paste to refinish the surface so the repair matches the finish around it.

Quartz & Corian Repair and Refinishing

We repair and refinish quartz and Corian countertops too. Chips, cracks, broken corners, chipped sink edges, seams and backsplash caulking are repaired the same way we repair granite, using color-matched materials polished to blend in.

For scratches and dullness on quartz and Corian, we usually refinish the entire surface instead of spot-fixing it. Using fine specialty sandpapers and polishing pads, we bring the whole countertop back to an even, like-new finish with no patchy spots.

Outdoor Granite: Mausoleum & Monument Cleaning

Granite outdoors gets weathered, stained and dull over the years. We clean and seal granite mausoleums and monuments to restore their original color and protect them from the elements.

Granite Repair FAQ

Yes, most cracks can be repaired without replacing the countertop. Even a full crack in front of the sink can usually be fixed with a rod repair.

Many repairs are completely invisible. Others blend in very closely. We’ll tell you honestly what to expect when we look at it.

Repair is almost always far less expensive than replacing, and it avoids tearing out your sink, backsplash and plumbing. We’ll give you a straight answer on which makes sense.

Usually it’s a rusted reinforcing rod inside the stone. As the rod rusts, it expands and cracks the granite. Our rod repair fixes the cause, not just the crack.
