How We Fixed a Leaking Primary Shower in Glenview Without a Full Tear-Out
When homeowners discover water stains on the ceiling below a bathroom, it’s often a sign of a bigger problem hiding behind the tile. That’s exactly what happened to this Glenview homeowner. The good news: not every leaking shower needs a full remodel. With the right repair, we stopped the leak and saved the rest of the shower.
The Problem
The homeowner noticed water stains on the ceiling below their primary shower. When we inspected it, we found broken wall tile, cracked grout and failed caulk, and moisture had already worked its way behind the tile and into the back wall. Every time the shower ran, more water was getting into the wall.
Why Immediate Repairs Matter
A leak like this only gets worse. Water behind tile can rot the wall, damage the ceiling below and lead to mold. Catching it early meant we could repair the damaged section instead of tearing out the entire shower, which saved the homeowner time and thousands of dollars.
Our Repair
- Removed the broken and damaged tile
- Rebuilt the damaged section of the back wall so it’s solid and water-resistant again
- Installed replacement tile, matched to the existing tile as closely as possible
- Regrouted and recaulked the repaired areas to seal everything back up
The Finished Results
The leak stopped, the wall is solid again, and the repaired section blends in with the rest of the shower. The homeowner got a watertight shower back in a fraction of the time, and at a fraction of the cost, of a full remodel.
